Best Starter Pals for Combat & Work

When you first wash up on the Palpagos Islands, you'll see a variety of low-level Pals. Catching everything you see is a good idea for experience points, but which ones should you actually invest your time into?

Important Reminder Don't forget to craft and bring plenty of Pal Spheres. You can't recruit them if you don't catch them!

1. Lamball (The Jack of All Trades)

Lamball is likely the first Pal you will see, and for good reason. It provides wool for crafting early gear, and it can assist you with building and transporting items. Plus, they can function as a surprisingly effective shield in combat!

2. Cattiva (The Hauler)

Cattivas are incredibly valuable in the early game. Not only do they increase your carrying capacity just by being in your party, but they are also fantastic at gathering resources around your base.

3. Foxparks (The Flamethrower)

Fire is a crucial element early on, especially for cooking food and staying warm at night. Foxparks is your best bet for early fire power. Once you unlock its special harness, you can literally pick it up and use it as a flamethrower.

"Having a balanced team of elements will make boss fights significantly easier. Don't just stack one type of Pal!"

4. Pengullet (The Water Source)

You'll need a water-type Pal to operate the Crusher and water your berry plantations. Pengullet is common, easy to catch, and handles all your early-game watering needs efficiently.
